POINTS & MILES PLANNING TOOL

Where should these points go?

Plan a redemption in three steps: know which points you have, find the programs that can book the flight you want, then check whether the redemption is worth it.

This is a planning tool, not a booking guarantee. Before you actually move any points: confirm real award availability for your flight or hotel dates first, and confirm the current transfer rate and partner list on the loyalty program and credit card issuer's own site — both can change without notice, and most transfers are final.

Step 1

Identify your points

Which rewards currencies do your cards earn? Add your card points and any airline or hotel balances.

Credit card points balances

Your transferable points currencies — Amex, Chase, Citi, Capital One, Bilt — combined across every card earning into that same pool.

Loyalty program balances

Airline miles and hotel points you hold directly — earned by flying or staying, not tied to a card.

Currency Summary

Your balances added up by currency, across every card.

Step 2

Find booking pathways

Which partner programs might book the airline you want, and which of your points can get there?

Pathway finder

Pick where you want to fly or stay, and see which programs can book it and which of your points can get there.

✈️ Airline pathway finder

Partners in the same alliance can usually book each other's flights, so you may have more ways in than you think.

Alliance partners can generally book each other's flights, but award space released to partners varies by route and date. Some airlines also have one-off partnerships outside their alliance that aren't listed here. Search the partner program's site for real availability before you transfer.

🏨 Hotel pathway finder

Hotel stays book through the chain's own program, so the question is which of your card points transfer there, and at what ratio.

Hotel transfer ratios vary a lot (some are 1:2 or 2:1), so compare the points you'd end up with, not just the ratio. Check award availability and the nightly points price on the hotel's site before you transfer.

Transfer partners

Pick a currency you hold to see where it can go, and at what ratio.
Transfer ratios are the standard published rates and change with issuer promotions — confirm the live rate on the issuer's site before transferring, since bonuses (e.g. 30% Amex-to-partner promos) can shift the math in your favor.

    Compare overlap

Select two or more currencies to see which programs more than one of them can reach.

    Domestic airline alliances

Pick a US airline and a points currency to see its global alliance and which partner airlines that specific currency can actually reach.

    Step 3

    Evaluate the redemption

Compare points required, cash price, fees, and CPP to decide whether to transfer or pay cash.

    Transfer Points or Pay Cash?

Work out the cents-per-point value of a specific redemption to see whether transferring points beats just paying cash.

Most issuers value your points at roughly 1¢ each when you redeem for cash back or a statement credit — 100 points ≈ $1. So a transfer redemption's real payoff is how far past that 1¢ baseline it gets you: right around 1¢ is a wash, comfortably above it means the transfer earned you extra value, and below it means you'd have been better off just taking the cash. That's the logic behind the four tiers below.

Under 1.0 cpp — Bad redemption, cash wins
    1.0–1.3 cpp — OK redemption
    1.4–1.7 cpp — Good redemption
1.8 cpp and up — Excellent redemption
